With his win at The 2019 Masters, Tiger Woods has now won a green jacket with three different branded golf balls; he won the 1997 Masters with a Titleist golf ball, he won in 2001, 2001 and 2005 using a Nike-designed golf ball, and he won in 2019 using a Bridgestone golf ball.
After Nike stopped making golf balls and clubs in 2016, Woods was without an equipment sponsor, and he eventually signed a multiyear deal with Bridgestone Golf to play its golf ball. As his former equipment liaison Rick Nichols told PGATOUR.COM in a recent interview, Bridgestone actually manufactured the Nike-designed golf balls all those years, so Woods’ switch to Bridgestone made sense.
Flash forward to 2019, and Bridgestone’s investment into sponsoring Woods has paid off. Woods won The Masters using a Bridgestone Tour B XS golf ball.
To celebrate, Bridgestone will sell limited-edition Commemorative TW Wraps on Bridgestone Tour B XS golf balls, which will be available at retail on Friday, April 26 selling for $44.99.
There was much speculation about how Woods winning The Masters would impact sales, especially for his sponsors. Here’s an early indication: Bridgestone made the limited-edition golf balls available to retailers the previous Friday in advance of the retail release, and they sold out in 24 hours. In fact, Bridgestone sold out of all Bridgestone Tour B XS golf balls (this means all Tour B XS golf balls are “spoken for” by retailers, according to Bridgestone, not that all Tour B XS golf balls are sold out of stores).
If that’s any indication of how the golf balls will sell at retail, it may be best to act fast come Friday for those interested in purchasing the limited-edition TW Wrap.
